Audio Description Workshop

ELENA DI GIOVANNI: Has a degree in Translation Studies, M.A. in Audiovisual Translation, Ph.D. in English for Special Purposes working on Cultural Representations on Disney Feature Films.
Her work in Audio Description started in 2007 with a European funded project and hasn’t stopped since. Her Audio Description repertoire includes over 70 films, theatre plays, operas and others. She lectures on Audiovisual Translation and Audio Description in Italy, Spain, Germany, UK and the USA.
She is currently based at the University of Macerata, Italy.

TAREK ALLOUSH: Started his sound engineering career at Echo sound in 1989 in music. In 1995 he mixed Disney’s first Theatrical Arabic dubbed version of “The Lion King”. A decade later, he founded his own sound studio covering music, dubbing, Theatrical Live Action features and Live Action TV series.

DR. ADALLAH El KHOLI: BA in Arabic Language and Islamic Studies (1983); MA (1989) and Ph.D. (1997) in Arabic Grammar and Structure with highest honors from Cairo University. Apart from his teaching career, Dr. El Kholi started as an announcer on Egyptian Radio Qur’an Channel in 1985, then moved up the ladder to be the head of programs on “Family and the Islamic Community” and “Islamic Culture” until he became the Vice President of the Channel in March 2014.

WALEED HAMMAD: Has worked as a dubbing actor since 2008 and as a director/translator/adaptor since 2010. Currently studying for his MA in Classical Acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

YARA ALAA: Has worked in dubbing since 1997 as an actress/ singer, director, QC officer, translator and project manager and since 2011 as an assistant director, creative director and line producer. She speaks English, Spanish and Greek.

ZEINAB MOBARAK: Studied Drama and Modern Arabic Literature at the American University in Cairo and works as a drama consultant for the BBC World Service Trust. Co-founded the puppet theatre Zassy, where she still performs, writes lyrics and sings. She has written a number of children’s series and lyrics for various satellite channels and in January 2010 led a Translation for Theatre group at a British Council workshop. She has worked on translation and adaptation of Disney productions since 1997. She is also one of the dubbing talents in Disney Arabic productions.

INAS SABRI: BA in Mass Communication majoring in TV & Radio with top honors from Cairo University. Won first place in theatre acting competition open to entrants from all Egyptian universities. Trained in interviewing skills and use of studio equipment at the Radio & TV Union. Her experience includes working as Assistant Director at El Ahly Club Channel and at ART Channel, co-organizing the Arab Media Conference and presenting a talk show for online radio. Currently working on her first book, a collection of short stories, and is teaching theater acting at Cairo University, where she is currently working on her MA on Audio Description.

ASMAA SAMIR: BA & MA in Mass Communication majoring in TV & Radio with highest honors. Currently hosts several shows and cultural programs on Egyptian radio. Her dubbing career includes directing, language supervision, production, adaptation and acting.

NEAMAT EL SHARNOUBI: After obtaining a BA (Hons) in Mass Communication in 2009, Neamat joined the Masreya Media team as a producer and eventually rose to handle operations for the Dubbing Department. Her practical experience in the studio has taught her the ins and outs of the world of dubbing and voice-over, giving her the background, tools and skills to manage day to day activities in both office and studios. Customer satisfaction and delivering top quality on time are the two forces which drive her.

HEBA AMR: BA in Mass Communication from Ain Shams University, finalizing diploma as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and working towards Motion Graphics Diploma from Adobe . Co-founder of Bedaya (The Beginning). Her language skills include Arabic and English with good knowledge of French and German.

MAHMOUD SHOMAN: MA in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL). Holds a MACS certificate, AELIC diploma, BELIC diploma and ALPS diploma for Advanced English Language Instructors from the Defense Language Institute, Texas, USA, covering methodology, grammar & writing, phonology and culture. Certified in IT and programming. Currently an English Language Material Developer at the Ministry of Defense Language Institute and a part-time Arabic Language Instructor for Foreigners at the American University in Cairo.
