In 2007, Masreya Media expanded its text translation and subtitling services to include a dubbing department, teaming up with Aysha Selim, a well-known name in Middle East dubbing circles. Aysha established her reputation as a member of the Disney Character Voices International (DCVI) team. This division of The Walt Disney Company is responsible for managing all Arabic dubbing for Disney in both Egypt and Lebanon from a creative as well as from an operational perspective. Aysha supervised the dubbing into Arabic of more than 50 feature films and more than 1500 hours of TV programming for home video and theatrical as well as TV release. Fuelled by her desire to produce dubbing of outstanding quality, the team came up with a hybrid language, a mixture of colloquial and Classical Arabic, devised to make the programs more accessible to pre-schoolers, and thus combining education with entertainment. The language was rated highly by both mothers and children on Disney Channel Middle East which aired on both Orbit and Showtime platforms.
During this time, Disney Character Voices International (DCVI) won acclaim at the International Children’s Film Festival held in Egypt, the biggest in the Arab world. The Arabic version of Monsters Inc, starring the Egyptian film stars Mohamed Heneidy and Hanan Tork, inaugurated the festival at the Cairo Opera House in March 2002 and won a prize for Disney, their first in the Middle East. After almost 10 years in operation, the Arabic dubs were ranked among the best quality within the Disney family.
Under Aysha’s guidance, Masreya Media expanded its services to include dubbing not only from English into Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic, Colloquial Egyptian and Syrian dialects), but also from other languages into English, German, French to name but a few. Such services are now part of the regular output. Dubbing genres include animation, live action, compilations, live shows, featurettes, documentaries, promos, interactive games, bonus materials, trailers, corporate videos and vocals for several media including television, DVD/HV and theatrical release.
In 2008 Masreya Media was appointed sole dubbing producer into Arabic for Disney Character Voices International (DCVI). Since then, its quality work has attracted other big names in cinema and TV including Paramount, Sony, BBC and OSN.
The company also provides bespoke voice-over services for corporate programmes and e-Learning localization as well as audio services such as M&E (Music and Effects) creation, original music and soundtrack composition and animation production.
